Driving north from Old Faithful to
Madison, the Osprey at right was standing on a tree stump overlooking the
Fire hole River. I was taking several photos of the bird in vertical
format when another photographer caused the bird to take flight. Had
I been in horizontal format, I could have captured the osprey's entire
wing span. However, I cropped the image to horizontal to focus
attention to the birds great looking claws.
Before intrusion by other
photographers causing the osprey to take flight, the bird was so
cooperative, I thought it might be tame, and was looking for an
identification band on
either of its feet. Obviously the bird was wild and not seen again
after taking off. This is a case where luck really helps.
