Imagine a yellow colonial style hotel
overlooking Yellowstone Lake in the middle of nowhere. Now imagine
that while the hotel is open for business, almost nobody is there.
What a bizarre experience. Remember this is late September and most
of the services at Yellowstone NP are due to be shut down in a week or
so. What makes this experience kind of sad is that this is
absolutely the most beautiful time of year to visit Yellowstone.
During the summer months, over 3 million people had visited the park and
the roads had been jammed with cars and the hotels with people.
The image at left was taken at about
9:00 AM of a viewing deck in front of the hotel overlooking the
lake. It's very stark and imparts a similar feeling of emptiness.
