Gil de Ferran started in position 2. His qualifying time was 1:40.154 at 154.504 MPH.
This location was the first site from which I photographed the race cars and was surprised to see that I was the only photographer at this location. Once you experience how fast the cars are traveling, you realize what a low percentage shot this was. You'd have to be very experienced at photographing race cars to capture this image without a auto focus lens. I used a Nikkor Silent Wave AFS lens in this case.
The image was captured at the top of Thunder Valley on other side of bridge (1-1 on map).
