  -  creating a mask is really just making a cutout

 

  Palettes Required:

     HISTORY > ACTIONS     (tabs)

     LAYERS > CHANNELS > PATHS    (tabs)

    Topaz 2 Instructions  (Plugin)
 

  

  -  Open Image in Photoshop

  -  Create duplicate layer:  LAYER ... DUPLICATE LAYER ... OK

  -  FILTER ... TOPAZ LABS ... REMASK 2 

  -  Create tri-map

       1. Entire image will be green.

       2. Use BLUE BRUSH to outline subject to be masked (blue)

       3.  Use RED PAINT BUCKET and touch are to be discarded (red)

  -  click on "Image" "Mask" "Keep", and "Cut" to review

  -  click on COMPUTE

    Create Mask Using Action Set  (Action - Old program) 
 

Preliminary:

The first time Photoshop and Remask are started, you must load the "action set" into Photoshop from the Remask directory:

  • First open an image in Photoshop

  • To load actions palette  - WINDOW ... ACTIONS

  • To load action set - ACTION MENU ...select triangle   [history > action > triangle] ...LOAD ACTIONS... navigate to Topaz actions folder

  • c:\Program Files \ Topaz Labs \ Topaz Remask \ Actions ...                            select topaz_mask action ... click LOAD

1.  RUN BEFORE ACTION

  -  Open Image in Photoshop

  -  Open Actions Palette:  WINDOW ... ACTIONS   (if not already visible)

  -  Select BEFORE ACTIONS ... click PLAY [triangle at bottom of window - 3rd from left]

  -  Click STOP in reminder box

 

2.  MAKE TRI-MAP SELECTION

  -  Select BRUSH TOOL to paint edges of subject  [on left tool set - down 4 on right]

  -  Set brush tool hardness to 100%

  -  Click on foreground color picker  (tool bar 3rd from bottom - upper left box)

           H=0   S=0   B=50 ... OK

  -  Select edge of subject - (will appear red color)

  -  To view Remask selection:  [layer > channel > mask palette] click off eyeball left of RGB

 

             -  Remask will calculate 50% GRAY areas

             -. Remask will keep WHITE areas     (Before starting, Remask made everything white by default)

             -  Remask will discard BLACK areas

 

   -  Select area to get rid of while in Mask Channel (not RGB channel):

         Select PAINT BUCKET TOOL  (left column tool set, down 6) (some tools have multiple tools)

         Foreground color is the upper left box color.

         Change fill color to BLACK ... OK ... click bucket in area to be discarded

 

3.  RUN PROCESS ACTION

   -  run PROCESS ACTION and click PLAY  (triangle at bottom of window - 3rd from left)

   -  To view selection, under CHANNELS TAB - click on EYEBALL left of Remask
