(A
reflected light meter will cause cameras to over expose black subjects and
under expose white subjects. The camera meter wants to make the
primary subject 18% neutral gray.)
Spot meter priority
subject that needs to be properly exposed:
-
White - meter will under expose so...over expose 2 stops.
-
If light gray - meter will under expose so...over expose 1 stop.
-
If dark gray- meter will over expose so...under expose 1 stop.
-
If black - meter will over expose so...under expose 2 stops.
If primary subject is
white, best results can be achieved by metering white and over exposing.
TIP:
On newer matrix metering type
cameras, shoot the matrix meter unless the background is black. The
camera is already programmed to adjust exposure properly for white
subjects.
