Vernal Falls 1
Vernal falls, located in Yosemite National Park in California, experienced very high water flows in the spring of 2006. This particular image was taken from a wet, slippery rock near the base of the falls. The mist was so intense that you would shield the camera until you were ready to take the picture. In this case I waited till just the right amount of sunlight hit the top of the falls. It is a standard image taken by many photographers with slightly different interpretations.
The image is mostly in black and whites due to the contrast of the scene. I actually exposed for the rapids in the foreground or they would have been totally washed out. I also used a 3 stop soft neutral graduated filter with the dark part of the filter covering the foreground.
The image was taken with a 28-70 F2.8 lens on carbon fiber tripod
