| On a trip to photograph egrets
in San Diego in April, I was surprised by the total disappearance of
egrets from a pond which usually supported numerous wildlife. So
instead I began to shoot sparrows and other perching birds that are not
typically on my radar screen. The photo above was taken with a
80-400 Vibration Reduction lens loaded with 400 ASA film. Later that
day, I caught up with the egrets who were all caring for their newly
hatched young in a Eucalyptus forest. Unfortunately, I only had a 80-400
zoon which wasn't enough lens to shoot egrets feeding their young.
