2 Youth Fighting |

It was one of those days when not everything was going as planned. I had already missed a few great shots and the birds were fairly inactive. All of a sudden, two young egrets jumped onto a branch in front of me and began to fight. The first shot was fairly predictable but a camera will generally lose auto focus for the second shot due to the mirror operation of the SLR. However, I was lucky and the camera maintained focus and I shot a second image as one egret chomped down on the beak of the other.
The images were shot about a second apart. The F100 does have the capability of knocking off 4.5 frames per second but I seem to have more luck when I selectively shoot one image at a time. Besides, I can't compete with some of the higher end SLRs ripping off 7+ frames per second. This was one of those times when I knew I had captured the image outright. Usually on birds in flight, you really don't know what you've got until after the film is processed.
