Walking into a garden for the first time, most persons initial response will be to photograph the most obvious objects of beauty. It's not until you hang around for a while and familiarize yourself with the different possibilities of subtle beauty, do you find images such as the color abstract at left. The play of light between sunlight and shade definitely adds to the drama of the image. Extensive digital dodging and burning makes this photo possible whereas a few years ago, the range of exposure between light and dark would have made this image impossible to achieve.
The image was taken with a 200 mm micro lens. Mounted on a carbon fiber tripod. I generally shoot this type of image between F5.6 and F32 and select the best image after developing the film. Matrix metering determines the shutter speed.
