Want to see some big glass. Go to a world class surfing event and you'll see a lot of big 600 F4s. In order to make my photos a little different, I chose to shoot from a location south of the Huntington Beach pier down by the water and shoot the surfers into the pier.
The image was taken with a 1,200 mm F11 Nikkor built in the early 80's. While a manual focus lens is usually not ideal for moving subjects, it appeared to work well for surfing shots. The lens was mounted on a Bogen Gimbol head and a pan base added to increase smooth panning motion.
