The light has to be right. Shot in early morning, the sunlight penetrating the oak forest canopy did not overwhelm the forest floor. A 3 stop soft graduated neutral density filter helped equalize the lighting.
To capture sufficient detail, this type of photograph is generally reserved for large format cameras. Although detail is difficult to see on an internet image, I used a 28-70 mm zoom lens which is considered one of the sharper zoom lenses.
The lens was mounted on a carbon fiber tripod with fairly large ball head and cable release.
