People That
Do and People That Don't
I watch a lot political
programming and consider myself a conservative independent.
Unfortunately, I get lopped in with republicans whether they
are "Tea Party Republicans" or a "Right-wing Bible Thumpers".
This is not fair because I an neither. I was
recently talking to several persons with a more liberal
philosophy and they couldn't believe that I didn't think the
planet was only 6,000 years old. Come on!.
As a result of the
constant mis-classification, of which I am also guilty, I have
created a new philosophy of sizing up other person's political
philosophy. I have cast aside Republican vs. Democrat or
conservative vs. liberal and am now going with "People that do
and people that don't". It's a lot easier to
differentiate between people that believe in personal
responsibility and accomplishment versus those that float
through life getting by with as little effort as possible and
expecting those that have some achievement to make up the
difference.
This concept may
be a little more interesting once you give it some thought.
Achievement cuts through both conservative and liberal
philosophies and cannot just be claimed by conservatives.
That's the fun part. Given these parameters, I no longer
really care if a person is conservative or liberal but whether
they believe in self responsibility and achievement. I
need to point out that actual achievement is necessary, just
the belief in personal responsibility.
