I don't think it's
possible for the our current federal government to produce
legislation that is beneficial to the average American
taxpayer. This is because paid lobbyists finance the
campaigns of all of our congressmen and senators. They
often control the actual writing of legislation. There
is a very simple solution:
-
Only US citizens
can donate up to $3,000 per year to a person in office or
running for office.
-
Corporations,
labor unions, special interest groups cannot donate any
money to a person running for office or their campaign.
In short, it would illegal for any entity other than a legal
individual to donate money. Period!
-
It would be
illegal for any special interest group to spend any money
promoting a candidate separately from their campaign.
Individuals in special interest groups can spend their own
$3,000 and say anything they want about a candidate, they
just can't spend more than $3,000 saying it.
-
Public funds to
campaigns would still be legal if apportioned equally.
-
No one in
political office would be allowed to accept any item or
service valued at over $50. Expense paid trips,
dinners, book signings, etc would all be illegal.
-
Of course,
lobbyists are welcome to visit elected officials at their
offices in Washington, they just can't spend any money on
them, directly or indirectly.
-
Donations by
individuals would not be tax deductible.
-
The principle:
Americans should run America, not special interest groups.
Republicans are quick to proclaim the virtues of a
democracy. People make a democracy, not special
interest groups.
