Limited federal Government:

The core purpose of the Federal Government is the common  defense (national security), preservation of public peace, the regulation of commerce, and the health & welfare of the American people.

Separation of Church & State:

Historically, democratic societies have struggled to shed the yoke of religious dictatorships.  I find it fascinating that many Americans support a return to religious rule.

Free & Fair Domestic Marketplace
Free & Fair Trade
National Independence
Personal Responsibility

Reasonable User Taxes:

I believe that if you're going to use of service, you should pay for that service.  For example, the gasoline tax is the perfect tax.  The more you use the roads and freeways, the more you should pay.  Lower mileage vehicles should pay more than higher mileage vehicles because they take up more space on the roads and their weight causes higher wear & tear.

Fiscal Responsibility

Support for Commons (infrastructure)

Support for Technology
Support for Space Exploration
Pro Defense but Anti Nation Building

Leadership Quotient:

Let's face it, if the candidate cannot lead, all the other abilities don't mean anything.  Leadership can present itself in many different forms, and being a narcissistic blowhard, does not necessarily make you a leader.

Hypocrisy Quotient:

Politicians that are pro family and are caught with a page or politicians that claim fiscal responsibility and then scramble for earmarks, disgust me.

Credibility Quotient:

Transparency Quotient:

Voting on legislation in the middle of the night that hasn't been read or published to the general public leads me to believe that his legislation is probably not beneficial to the American public.

Factual Quotient:

So many politicians make their decisions (at least give speeches) based on their principles.  The problem is that their principles are often not substantiated by any facts.

Nuance Quotient:

The more polarized a politician's position, the less their ability to understand both sides of an issue and the less beneficial, to the American public, their decision process.

Reality Quotient:

Sometimes I hear politicians speak and haven't a clue what planet they are coming from.  Rep. Bachman announces that gasoline will drop to $2.00 per gallon if she is elected president.  Good grief!

Economics Quotient:

Too many politicians are lawyers and haven't a clue on how to run a business or the national economy. Is it no wonder that the economy is broken and unemployment at record highs.  It also shows the absolute failure of the American educational system.

Bragging Quotient:

I love politicians that brag about an accomplishment that they had nothing to do with.  For example,  President Clinton took credit for reducing the budget deficit when it was really the tech bubble that was deflated with the tech crash in 2001.

Fairness Quotient:

When is all said and done, you have to look a politician in the face and decide if they are fair and reasonable, whether or not they represent your own personal beliefs.  When Warren Buffet say that his secretary pays a higher percentage of her income in taxes than he does, that strikes me as not fair.  When a politician criticizes Warren Buffet for his statement and proceeds to legislate for ever more tax cuts for the wealthiest, I have a serious problem with that politician.

Truth Quotient:

Unlike understanding reality, searching for the truth is a life long endeavor to discover what's real and the reason for one's existence.  This is kind of philosophical but it just seems to me that some individuals just don't search for the truth about anything. It is more of a discipline of life rather than a goal that can be achieved.  How can an individual be an effective leader or even an effective human being if they just don't question anything.
